Install it in Applications — before you open it

  1. Find FoldNotes.app in your Downloads folder. Safari unpacks the zip for you; with another browser, double-click the zip first.
  2. Drag FoldNotes.app into the Applications folder in any Finder window's sidebar.
  3. Open FoldNotes from Applications — or from Launchpad or Spotlight. Not from Downloads.

Opened straight from Downloads, macOS runs FoldNotes from a temporary read-only copy, and it can't update itself. If you've already done that, quit FoldNotes, drag it to Applications, and open it from there — nothing is lost. Then you can delete the zip.

Requirements: macOS 15 Sequoia or later. On iPhone and iPad, FoldNotes is free on the App Store.

Your notes are plain Markdown files in your own folder, and FoldNotes updates itself when a new version is out.

Buying a licence

When you’re ready, buy from the pricing page. Your licence key appears straight after checkout and arrives by email; enter it in FoldNotes ▸ Licence. One licence covers three Macs.

If the trial ends before you buy, your notes stay open: FoldNotes still opens, reads, searches and previews every note, and exports them as plain Markdown. Editing waits for a licence.

The Direct edition

FoldNotes for Mac is sold directly from this site, not the Mac App Store. It’s signed and notarised by Apple, and includes the fn command line tool and the MCP server for AI assistants.
